“Anthraquinone is used as a digester additive. It works as a redox catalyst by oxidizing cellulose and reducing lignin. This protects the cellulose from degradation and makes the lignin more water-soluble.” Gowri stopped reading from the textbook and looked at Srikar to see if he understood what she said. He seemed to be contemplating what he just heard. Meanwhile, she looked around and enjoyed the pleasant breeze carrying the sounds of ringing bells from the nearby temple and the marvelous view of the snow-capped mountains from the balcony. After a minute, he made a monosyllabic sound to convey his assent to move on. Gowri read the next paragraph, which was an explanation of the process and relatively easy to comprehend. This time within seconds, Srikar nodded his approval for her to move on.
Srikar is a very talented and intelligent guy. But he always preferred someone reading out to him rather than reading on his own. His argument is that he could process auditory inputs quicker than others. His parents didn’t mind this approach as he performed well academically. Gowri is his newest reader. They met at their college. She loves to read aloud while studying. When Srikar heard Gowri reading aloud, he immediately asked her to help him study. Gowri, irritated at being requested on previous occasions to stop reading aloud, readily agreed to this proposal.
“Fixation agents are used for fixating finely dispersed potential deposits to the fibers…” Gowri was interrupted while reading when Srikar, out of the blue, said, “You are beautiful.” Gowri was astounded at this sudden comment. She had been complimented previously, but she never expected this to come from Srikar as he was visually impaired. She was taken aback and fumbled quite a lot, for she could not bring herself to ask how he would know when he couldn’t see; that could be rude.
He, however, sensed her fumbling and said, "I did not say you LOOK beautiful. I said you ARE."
